The Role of Research

The First-time Principals Programme is informed by frequent research for its continuous improvement, to increase the effectiveness of the programme. This research is planned by the Project Team based at The University of Auckland Centre for Educational Leadership. The research is further developed, reported and analysed by a Research Assistant, who is a member of the team. Most research information is gathered by detailed questionnaires about the quality and effectiveness of each residential course, the mentoring programme, online learning and the first-time principal's personal development goals. The participants complete these questionnaires at various times during the induction course.

Evaluations
Ko te Arotake

The Project Team at The University of Auckland Centre for Educational Research is committed to the continuous improvement of the First-time Principals Programme. Feedback from the participants is important and this is why confidential evaluation questionnaires are integral to the programme.  The evaluation results provide valuable data to assist in identifying the strengths and areas for improvement of the induction programme.

In addition, an advisory group of first-time principals representing their sector groups and types of schools, is appointed by the participants at their first residential course.  This group gives feedback to the Project Team on behalf of the participants during and between the residential courses.

The Educational Leadership Practices Survey

This survey is designed to provide a robust picture of a school's educational leadership. The survey covers key aspects of leadership that our current evidence shows are most likely to have an impact on teaching and learning. Its main purpose is formative, to support ongoing school leadership development.
